According to the statement, investment bank Goldman Sachs Group will replace Bank of America Corp., credit card company Visa will replace tech company Hewlett-Packard Co. and sportswear company Nike will replace aluminum giant Alcoa Inc. in the blue-chip Dow after the close of trading on Sept. 20, the statement said.

"The changes will be effective with the opening of trading on Monday, Sept. 23," the statement said.

This procedure prevents any distortion in the Dow's reflection of the U.S. stock market, said the statement.
