A Demonstrator’s Guide to Body Armor
A Demonstrator’s Guide to Body Armor
Over the past four years, police and fascist violence against demonstrators has escalated around the United States, with well over a dozen demonstrators murdered in 2020 alone. This is not the consequence of Trump’s presidency, but the result of intensifying social pressures that will not be relieved by another politician taking office. Unfortunately, ceding the streets to fascists and police will ultimately only increase the dangers to all of us. By taking the proper precautions, we can mitigate the risks while continuing to take action to build a better world. This guide reviews a wide range of protective gear, exploring the advantages and disadvantages of each so you can pick out what’s best for you. The life you save could be your own.To get more news about bulletproof zone customer service, you can visit bulletproofboxs.com official website.
We’re going to focus on three styles of armor: sports armor, for mitigating impact weapons like bean bag rounds and batons; soft ballistic armor, or “bulletproof vests,” which defend against handguns; and plate carriers, which are designed to protect your vital organs from rifle fire.
Our threat models—the risks we are seeking to protect against—are changing constantly. A few years ago, protest armor was intended to protect against Nazis with knives and sticks. At the beginning of the George Floyd uprising in the US, the chief threat model involved police using various impact weapons. By the end of summer 2020, police were still shooting baton rounds and pepper-balls, but fascists shooting live ammunition had become a more pressing issue.
All armor involves pros and cons. Most armor reduces mobility, which is one of our primary advantages against police who are weighed down by both bureaucratic command structures and heavy gear. Most armor makes us stand out, rendering arrival and departure more difficult. Some armor incurs the risk of legal penalties. Being the only person wearing armor is often a bad idea unless it can be concealed. Still, normalizing wearing armor can make it easier for others to do so, and the more people do, the safer we all will be—both from direct attacks and from police efforts to target us for protecting our bodies.
Which kind of armor is appropriate will vary from one situation to the next. In many situations—for example, when speed or optics is paramount—it may still be best not to wear armor.
Armor can easily give the wearer a false sense of security. Shortly before we published this, there was yet another incident in which a fascist shot a counter-protester; the survivor was wearing body armor, but the bullet entered their body at a point that was unprotected. No one is invincible, no matter what they wear.
If you want to protect yourself primarily against batons and other police impact weapons, get a skateboard helmet, some hard-shelled knee pads, some children’s shin guards to wear on your forearms, and possibly motocross chest armor or a plastic fencing breastplate. If you want to add more protection, consider a shield, full leg armor, and a HEMA gorget—plastic or padded neck armor for people who fight with swords for sport. A guide to shields will appear later in this series.
If you want to wear something that protects you against handguns, get a wraparound IIIA vest, either from the leftist armorer Red Star Defense or from eBay. If you are buying from eBay, consider purchasing a surplus vest to save money. If you’re worried about knives, pay a bit more for a vest with stab resistance.
If you want to protect yourself from rifle rounds, get a plate carrier and a pair of III+ ceramic plates from Red Star Defense or elsewhere. This is heavy and harder to conceal.

Body armor manufacturers are seeing a spike in sales amid recent incidents of gun violence in the US, NPR reported. Increasingly, they're seeing purchases from leftists and progressives of color who "want to have that protection," a gun rights advocate said.To get more news about hard armor panels, you can visit bulletproofboxs.com official website.
"It's becoming popular among leftist progressive people of color," P.B Gomez the founder of the Latino Rifle Association told NPR, adding that they "want to protect themselves at protests when they're in situations where they might be confronted by far-right agitators."
"The rhetoric towards the larger communities in these far-right circles is getting worse, and the rhetoric is expanding, so that's sort of the motivation behind it," Gomez, who said he's seen more and more body armor worn at protests, told Insider.
In the wake of racially motivated attacks like the Buffalo, New York, supermarket shooting, which targeted a predominantly Black community, groups like the Latino Rifle Association have argued that body armor is "valid protection from hate crimes."
"If you are POC or LGBTQ+, highlight the fact that body armor is valid protection from hate crimes, you don't appreciate New York's attempt to make you vulnerable," the Latino Rifle Association tweeted last month.
Critics have argued, however, that civilian body armor is unnecessary unless your job requires it. New York passed a gun reform bill restricting the purchase of body armor in response to the Buffalo mass shooting. The bill, signed by Kathy Hochul on June 6, restricts the purchase of a soft vest that is more concealable. However, the shooter wore a hard metal-plated vest that deflected a security guard's bullet, according to law enforcement.
"We often heard the good guy with the gun can stop the bad guy with the gun, but in this case, the bad guy with the gun had body armor on and the retired police officer, Officer (Aaron) Salter, could not stop him," New York State Senator Sean Ryan, who is in favor of the bill, told Spectrum News 1.Gomez criticized the bill, saying it's "banning the most passive defense you could possibly have to gun violence."
Sales of protective gear also rose after the Texas school shooting last month. Demand for bulletproof backpacks spiked after the mass shooting, which left 19 children and two adults dead, Insider's Yelena Dzhanova previously reported.
Brad Pedell, owner of a tactical shop in New York City, told local news outlet 13Wham that he is disappointed with the New York law. Much of his business includes selling body armor.
China economy recovering but hampered by virus outbreaks
China economy recovering but hampered by virus outbreaks
Wang Jian is anxious to get back to work teaching basketball to children now that China has lifted anti-COVID-19 restrictions. But his gym in the eastern city of Shenyang has been closed for a month because all its coaches are infected. To get more china business market news, you can visit shine news official website.
The most optimistic forecasts say China's business and consumer activity might revive as early as the first quarter of this year. But before that happens, entrepreneurs and families face a painful squeeze from a surge in virus cases that has left employers without enough healthy workers and kept wary customers away from shopping malls, restaurants, hair salons and gyms.
“I hope the situation will turn around in March or April with no more COVID shocks,” said Wang, 33, who went without a paycheck for four months when the gym closed during virus outbreaks. “If parents worry about possible reinfection, they simply won’t send their children for training.”
The abrupt decision by President Xi Jinping's government to end controls that shut down factories and kept millions of people at home will move up the timeline for economic recovery, but might disrupt activity this year as businesses scramble to adapt, forecasters say.
People still are struggling with infections, but we think this could be temporary,” Chen said. “Broadly, we think this is a positive surprise.”
The decision to accelerate China's reopening is a boost for the global economy at a time when activity in the United States and Europe is weakening after repeated interest rate hikes by central banks to cool surging inflation.
It is likely to help revive auto sales and propel demand for imported consumer goods, oil and food in China, one of the biggest global markets. Countries including Thailand with big tourism industries look forward to an influx of Chinese travelers.
The World Bank and private sector forecasters have cut estimates of China's economic growth last year to as low as 2.2% due to the infection spike that started in early October and challenged Beijing's “zero-COVID” goal of isolating every case. The International Monetary Fund expects a recovery to 4.4% this year, but that still would be among the lowest levels of the past three decades.
“Zero-COVID” kept China’s infection numbers low but shut down Shanghai and other industrial cities last year for two months, disrupting manufacturing and shipping. Business groups said global companies were shifting investment plans away from China because rules that required visitors from abroad to quarantine for a week kept executives from visiting.
The ruling party promised Nov. 11 to reduce the cost and disruption. A series of surprise announcements rolled back travel and other restrictions that health experts and economists had expected to persist through mid-2023.
On Sunday, Beijing began allowing travelers to enter China without quarantines. The government has yet to say when China will resume issuing tourist visas.
“The sudden, chaotic way in which pandemic policies have been changed means that growth will be hampered in new ways,” Daniel H. Rosen, Charlie Vest and Rogan Quinn of Rhodium Group said in a report. High numbers of infections make it "realistic to expect production to be hampered for a substantial part of 2023.”
Forecasters say the economy probably contracted in the final quarter of 2022 as virus case numbers rose and retail spending and trade fell.
Exports shrank after American and European consumer demand was depressed by interest rate hikes. That forces Chinese planners to make up for lost foreign sales by trying to boost consumer demand.
Google parent Alphabet may open units to China
Google parent Alphabet may open units to China
Google parent Alphabet may do business in China following the reorganisation of the technology giant, co-founder Sergey Brin has said.To get more news about china alphabet, you can visit shine news official website.
Brin, who is president of Alphabet, told the Wall Street Journal yesterday that the new organisational structure would allow each unit autonomy on the matter.
"Each Alphabet business can make its own decisions on which countries to operate in," Brin was quoted as saying.
"We already do quite a lot of business in China, although it has not been an easy country for us."
Google ended most operations in China in 2010 in a dispute over censorship and an attack on Gmail users.
It does sell ads to businesses in China, but Google services are not officially available in the country.
Earlier this month, Google bought a stake in Chinese artificial intelligence startup Mobvoi which is aiming to develop smart wearable technologies. The two firms previously announced an agreement earlier this year to bring the Google Android Wear operating system to China.
Google in August announced its plan to reshape under the newly formed parent company.
The move gives the tech giant more ability to focus on its core business, while offering startup-like flexibility to long-shot, trailblazing projects.
Alphabet will be the corporate parent, overseeing the Google unit for search and a handful of other operating firms created for projects in health, Internet delivery, investment and research.

Lock Crime Out of Your Home
Lock Crime Out of Your Home
This Crime Prevention Month, take a quick home audit to make sure your home is protected against intruders by downloading this handy Home Security Checklist. To get more news about security lock systems, you can visit securamsys.com official website.
All exterior doors should be either metal or solid wood. For added security, use strong door hinges on the inside of the door, with non-removable or hidden pins. Every entry door should be well lit and have a wide-angle door viewer so you can easily see who is outside.
LOCKS
Strong, reliable locks are essential to effective home security. Use quality keyed knobs as well as deadbolts that can withstand twisting, turning, prying, and pounding.
When choosing a deadbolt, look for such features as a bolt that extends at least one inch when in the locked position, to resist ramming and kicking; hardened steel inserts to prevent the bolt from being sawed off, and a reinforced strike plate with extra-long mounting screws to anchor the lock effectively.
WINDOWS
Most standard double-hung windows have thumb-turn locks between the two window panels. Don’t rely on these—they can be pried open or easily reached through a broken pane.
An easy, inexpensive way to secure your windows is to use the “pin” trick. Drill an angled hole through the top frame of the lower window partially into the frame of the upper window. Then insert a nail or eyebolt. The window can’t be opened until you remove the nail.
Lighting is one of the most cost-effective deterrents to burglary. Indoor lighting gives the impression that a home is occupied, while outdoor lighting can eliminate hiding places.
Install exterior lighting near porches, rear and side doorways, garage doors, and all other points of entry. Aim some lights away from the house so you can see if anyone is approaching, or installmotion-sensing lights, which turn on automatically as someone approaches.

What Are the Benefits of Robots as a Service?
What Are the Benefits of Robots as a Service?
Robots have become inseparable from industries like manufacturing and logistics. As automation becomes ever more widespread, those that don’t automate could fall behind the competition. Robots as a service (RaaS) aims to democratize automation, helping these smaller businesses experience all the benefits of robotics while avoiding its drawbacks. To get more news about Robots on Demand, you can visit glprobotics.com official website.
The cloud robotics industry, which includes RaaS, was worth $3.3 billion in 2019 and could grow to $157.8 billion by 2030. That would account for almost a third of the total robotics sector’s entire worth. Here’s a closer look at robots as a service and why it‘s gaining popularity.
What Is RaaS?
Robots as a service takes the same approach as software as a service (SaaS) and applies it to robotics. In this model, customers wouldn’t buy robotic systems outright to use and maintain for their entire lifecycle. Instead, they rent robots and their capabilities through a cloud-based subscription service.
RaaS goes beyond simple equipment leasing, too. The cloud service through which companies access these robots provides data reporting and programming tools. With this service, renters can program robots to work in a given environment and access as many or as few capabilities as they need.
Right now, security, hospitality, delivery, and medical care make up the largest use cases for RaaS. It will likely see more use in other industries as these services grow and more companies realize their benefits. What are a few of those advantages?
Lower Costs
The most evident benefit of robots as a service is that it lowers expenses. Traditionally, automation comes at a high price, standing as a significant obstacle in the way of broader adoption. In a 2018 survey, 53% of business leaders cited the costs as one of their top five challenges with robotics, more than any other factor.
In RaaS, customers don’t buy robots outright, lowering the upfront cost of implementation. Since these robots are flexible by design, companies also don’t have to spend as much on training them to fit in a specific work environment. Ease of use further reduces related expenses by minimizing workflow disruptions.
With an RaaS model, renters don’t bear the weight of ongoing maintenance costs. Maintenance tasks fall to the vendor, not the user, which keeps renters’ expenses to a minimum.
Reduced Infrastructure Needs
Another common barrier to robotics adoption that RaaS eliminates is the need for extensive compatible infrastructure. Implementing traditional robots requires companies to have the computing and utility infrastructure to support robots’ complex computational needs. Since RaaS bots operate on the cloud, they don’t come with these requirements.
RaaS customers don’t need to supply extensive on-site computing infrastructure because the vendor handles those needs through the cloud. As a result, smaller companies with fewer on-site resources can still implement high-end robotics. In addition to speeding the implementation process, removing this barrier further reduces costs.
The nature of RaaS requires vendors to supply robots that are more flexible than standard solutions. This further reduces infrastructure needs since these machines will require less hardware to implement into a given task.
